remember these guys?
well, it just occurred to me recently that i had never posted their actual wedding day(s) photos!
their engagement photos and day-after shots were posted loooong ago here, here and here.
but before we hit the rest of their pics
a rehash of the highlights from their photoshoot throughout rural and urban hong kong.

DAY 1
first i have to mention that sarah designed all her dresses.
i’ve come across some handy brides who’ve been able to pull off the project runway for their wedding day,
but not like this.
not with four dresses, and with distinct styles nonetheless.
as a photographer i loved shooting the black polka dot piece. the graphic-ness helps give images that much more pop.
i loved the flowing texture in her wedding dress.
and the modern twists on the traditional chinese chi-paos.
but what do i know about these things.
day 1 consisted of a western style ceremony and a chinese tea ceremony at the to’s.
but perhaps the most special part of the day was after the different ceremonies were over..
rich had prepared a surprise candle lit dinner for sarah at their new home
with the world’s best groomsmen (literally these guys were crazy on top of it all) behind the operation.
they had prepped the place with decorations, roses, and yes, they cooked and waited as well.
add on top of all that a nice 1983 bottle of wine
and i’d say mission accomplished rich. :)

DAY 2
the next day they held their reception for friends and family.
rich and sarah’s wedding photos are special to me cause i’ve never documented an event as intimate as theirs.
not to say others’ aren’t intimate, just that them, their family and their friends were so utterly and entirely hospitable and transparent.
i truly felt like i was part of their family.
there was not a single moment when i was aware of myself being a ‘foreigner’ or merely a ‘vendor’
it was actually a really weird and almost otherwordly feeling. hah
it was like for the first time i had transcended my vocation and was not just behind the camera but concurrently involved with the reality in front of it.
anyways, all to say it was truly a blessing to have had the honor and opportunity to share in the love that was embodied in the participants of this wedding.

it was a loooong weekend for these guys
with a ton of love, laughter and celebration.
and after this last shot, well…
exit photographer, safe to say :)
